Toronto is one of the top sexting cities in the world, report says

The annual Squirt.org report also ranks Toronto as Canada’s top city for cruising and a global hotspot for bottoming.

What to know

  • Toronto tops Canada’s cruising rankings, and is a hotspot for sexting and bottoming, according to Squirt.org’s year-end report.
  • The report reveals 2025’s biggest, sexiest queer trends, from popular kinks and positions to where people are actually cruising.
  • Canadians stand out for their interest in dom/sub dynamics, amateur and public-sex porn, and “daddy” and “jock” archetypes.

Toronto’s well-known for being the queer capital of Canada, but it turns out we’re also the top city in Canada for cruising, and we’re up there when it comes to sexting, too.

Squirt Unloaded is the end-of-year report from cruising website Squirt.org, which primarily caters to gay and bisexual men. Mitchell Cheeseman, senior marketing and brand manager at Squirt’s parent company, Pink Triangle Press, explained that the team analyses member data and survey results to create a sexy annual report that, over time, he hopes will create an archive of changing trends for the queer community. He calls Squirt Unloaded a wrap-up celebration of a “big gay year.”

For instance, the top kinks of 2025. Leading the pack? Group sex, followed by exhibitionism, jockstraps, BDSM, roleplay, piss play, leather, fisting, feet, and finally, voyeurism.

Favourite forms of foreplay included oral sex, making out, massages, rimming, and mutual masturbation. Meanwhile, the top sex positions for the year were doggy-style, missionary, cowboy, side-by-side, and frotting.

Squirt also has some location-specific data included in the report.

It turns out Canadians have a higher-than-average interest in dom/sub dynamics, a strong inclination toward amateur and public-sex porn, and an increased attraction to men who identify or present as “daddies” and “jocks.”

And Canadians were well represented when it came to the cities for those who lean towards (or exclusively practice) bottoming. While Los Angeles, California, was the top city for bottoms, Toronto was the second, Brisbane, Australia, was the third, Montreal snagged the fourth spot, and Birmingham, U.K., rounded out the top five.

Meanwhile, internationally, the places with the most tops included Sydney, Australia; Houston, Texas; Manchester, U.K.; Phoenix, Arizona; and Edinburgh, U.K., while the top top spots in Canada were Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg.

TORONTO: TOP CANADIAN CITY FOR CRUISING

For those who aren’t familiar, “cruising” is a term popular with queer men, describing the process of going out in public to find people to hook up with.

And Toronto is the place to hook up! According to the data, the best countries for cruising included Spain, Mexico, the Netherlands, Germany and France — while top cities in Canada were Toronto, Edmonton, Vancouver, Ottawa and Winnipeg.

“I might go to a gay bar and cruise, and that means I’m going out, looking for a guy or guys to meet up with. Some people may cruise in public locations or in parks at the beach, but even going to the bathhouse, you could argue, is cruising,” Cheeseman told Queer & Now

“But ultimately, we use it in the really broadest sense. You’re looking for adventure in a likely sexual manner.”

So, across the board, where do people go to cruise? Bathhouses are the top spot, which makes sense, followed by an au natural option: outdoor trails. Parking lots were the third most popular location, followed by public washrooms, while gay bars came surprisingly low on the list, taking the fifth spot.

POP CULTURE FAVOURITES

The data wasn’t all focused on what happens between the sheets (or wherever else you’re getting it on), but it also looked at something else queer people love: pop culture.

If you’re looking for a new show to check out, The White Lotus was the most popular scripted TV series. Other titles include Boots, High Potential, Last of Us, and Andor. Meanwhile, the best unscripted TV shows this year, according to Squirt users, were RuPaul’s Drag Race, The Traitors, Survivor, Love On The Spectrum, and Project Runway.

Divas of the year included Lady Gaga, Sabrina Carpenter, Beyonce, Chappell Roan, Mariah Carey, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande, Kylie Minogue, Rosalía and Tyla.

When it came to music, there were no surprises. The top song of the year was none other than “Abracadabra” by head diva Lady Gaga, followed by Taylor Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia,” “Here All Night” by Demi Lovato, “Manchild” by Sabrina Carpenter and the K-pop Demon Hunters’ track “Golden.”

Voters said Gaga’s MAYHEM was the top album of 2025, Swift’s The Life of A Showgirl snagged the second spot, followed by Sabrina Carpenter’s Man’s Best Friend, Debí Tirar Más Fotos from Bad Bunny, and Am I The Drama by Cardi B.

A NEW PORNOGRAPHY STUDIO

Last year, the site also expanded its operations to include a pornography studio: Squirt Studios.

“So, in addition to the cruising site that you can join, you can also sign up or subscribe to Squirt Studios, which is putting out regular scenes with adult performers,” he explained.

The report shows that the most popular categories were bareback, orgy, amateur, public sex, dom/sub, twinks, rough sex, fetish/kink, college and muscle.

So, how does a cruising site and porn studio fit into the ecosystem of Pink Triangle Press, Canada’s oldest queer-focused media outlet? Cheeseman says they exist to serve PTP’s mission: daring together to set love free.

He says that the more people join the site, the larger the platform can become, supporting the company’s mission of sex positivity and celebrating queer people for who they are. Additionally, any money made by the site is directed back into PTP operations, including their work in advocacy and journalism.

“So, the more Squirt can do, and the more Squirt can earn, the more we can support the other parts of our business and the queer community in other ways. So, while Squirt might just look like another dating platform, I think there’s a whole lot more to it.”

He says this is important because many of the larger platforms for dating or hooking up are not sex positive.

SQUIRTING IS FOR EVERYONE

Meanwhile, you know this lesbian columnist couldn’t help but wonder why a cruising site for queer men is called “squirt” – a term usually used to describe female ejaculation.

“We’ve been around for a very long time,” Cheeseman laughed, adding that the site first launched back in 1999.

“So, the squirt name has a lot of history to it, and it’s something that we like to lean into and have some fun with. You know, ultimately, everybody squirts.”
