A local content creator known for his furry bunny motorcycle helmet was kicked out of an Etobicoke mall after an intense confrontation with security.
The altercation was posted online earlier this week, though the creator confirmed it actually happened on June 13, as M S Bunny visited CF Sherway Gardens to grab a drink before heading to the Mississauga Halal Food Festival (MHFF) in Celebration Square.
At his arrival, many fans recognized him, chatted with him, and took pictures with him. But the wholesome moments ended shortly after, when a security guard tried to escort him out but allegedly did so rudely.
@m.s_bunny1 – I wanted to share what happened during my visit to Sherway Gardens. After many people asked me to visit, I finally made time to come down. My intention wasn’t only to visit – I was also planning to support the mall and make a purchase, like I normally do whenever I go shopping. Unfortunately, my visit lasted less than 15 minutes before I was approached by a security guard while I was waiting in line to get a drink. He immediately started yelling at me and demanding that I remove my helmet. I explained that the helmet is part of my persona and asked for a couple of minutes so I could grab my drink and leave. However, I was blocked from ordering and felt the situation was escalating. Once I was able to get my drink, I repeatedly asked him not to yell because I didn’t want to create a scene. I was trying to de-escalate the situation. Instead, he told me to “shut up,” listen, and leave. Regardless of the situation, I believe there is a professional way to communicate with people. The way I was spoken to was disappointing and unnecessary. I want to mention that after speaking with the supervisor, he was very respectful, understanding, and handled the conversation professionally. I left the mall peacefully. M S Bunny told Now Toronto that he was trying to de-escalate the situation and just buy a drink before being escorted out, but that the security guard allegedly kept escalating it.
What happened?
M S Bunny is a content creator known for wearing a furry bunny helmet and spreading love and kindness.
M S Bunny told Now Toronto that the security guard said CF Sherway Gardens has a policy which requires visitors to remove full-face motorcycle helmets to allow facial identification.
After M S Bunny declined to remove it and offered to show him his ID instead, the security guard allegedly refused to see it and asked him to leave.
“I understand that it’s a policy, I believe, but I cannot take off my helmet, you know, based on my social media persona. But if you ask me to leave, I accept to comply with you and I leave. But if you give me like five minutes, I’m just like I’m in line to get a drink. But this guy’s yelling and everything,” M S Bunny told Now Toronto.
Then, M S Bunny claimed that the security guard was telling other customers about the situation and kept yelling at him.
“For me, that was so unprofessional. Nobody needs to know what’s happening. It’s like, you don’t want to create more of a scene, right? Why [do] you have to tell the random customers what’s happening?” he questioned.
“Why [do] you keep yelling? And on top of that, you tell me to shut up. That’s so unprofessional. You security guard, you’re supposed to deescalate this situation. And instead of your job, I’m doing that. Why am I de-escalating it while you’re escalating it?” he added.
On his way out, M S Bunny says he spoke with a supervisor at CF Sherway Gardens to voice his concerns about the treatment he’d received from the other security guard, and then left the establishment.
Disappointed fans
Fans who had caught a glimpse of M S Bunny before he was escorted out had messaged him, asking why he hadn’t advertised his stop at the mall.
The business from whom he grabbed a drink also allegedly messaged him, agreeing that the security hadn’t treated him well.
According to the creator, a different security guard, allegedly a supervisor at CF Sherway Gardens, asked him if he would like to come back, stating that his coworker’s actions were inappropriate. The worker also suggested M S Bunny come during his shift to ensure there’s no repeat of this situation.
M S Bunny said that as much as he appreciates the idea, he doesn’t want to return to CF Sherway Gardens after his experience.
What would M S Bunny like to see changed?
M S Bunny did not message corporate, but decided to share his experience online to raise awareness of his alleged mistreatment.
He would love to see a different approach in such situations, asking for respect rather than yelling and allegedly being told to “shut up.”
M S Bunny said he’s disappointed the security guard didn’t apologize to him and that, instead, he allegedly received threats from the security guard’s family members for posting him online.
“[The mall] needs to have a better approach, not treat me like I’m a criminal,” he said.
