In just over a year, Toronto will host highly-anticipated FIFA World Cup 2026 games and Drake’s name is officially in the conversation of who could perform at halftime.

Less than a month following Kendrick Lamar’s halftime performance at the Super Bowl, the President of FIFA is responding to an inquiry of whether rap-rival Drake will perform at the FIFA World Cup 2026 games in Toronto.

In a sit-down interview with Good Day New York, show-host Rosanna Scotto suggests to FIFA President Gianni Infantino that Drake should be a halftime performer for the event in Toronto.

“I have a great idea for you, for the halftime,” she said to Infantino. “Drake. Because you were at the Super Bowl—Kendrick Lamar dissed him at the Super Bowl.”

In response, Infantino said, “That’s a good idea…actually, Drake was with us when we announced the host cities. I should have his number saved somewhere.”

Infantino is referring to his conversation with Drake at the World Cup host city announcement in February 2024, where Drake hyped up the 6ix.

“Canada as a whole, we have an incredible melting pot. But in Toronto, there are just so many different cultural experiences,” Drake explained. “So when the world comes, it’s going to be beautiful.”

Online, people are reacting to the potential of the Canadian rapper performing at the games.

“drake gonna do way better than kendrick,” one person wrote on X, while another said, “The world cup just went from football to rap battle.”

Meanwhile, another X user is in full support of the musical choice.

“Drake at the World Cup halftime? That would be ICONIC!”

To put the games into perspective, FIFA reported an average of 571 million viewers for the 2022 World Cup Final between France and Argentina, while the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show had 133 million viewers, the highest number the show had ever recorded.
