The big quack is back!
The world’s largest rubber duck is making its return to Toronto’s Waterfront Festival this weekend.
From Sept. 16 to 17, fans of the huge ducky, known as Mama Duck, can witness it nesting on land at 7 Queens Quay East.
“Due to the nature of her new set up and the size of space she requires, we are only able to set her up on-land. For all the events the Duck is attending in 2023, she will only appear on-land,” the Toronto Waterfront website reads.
The massive duck stands six stories tall and weighs 30,000 pounds. The festival says the duck made its first appearance six years ago back in 2017 and it attracted over 750,000 people to Toronto’s Waterfront. As a result, the festival earned an estimated $7.6 million in economic revenue for the city.
“The number one program we continually get asked to bring back is by far the World’s Largest Rubber Duck. After 6 years, we are very excited to have Mama Duck back to Toronto’s Waterfront to celebrate the last weekend of summer,” Chair of the Toronto Waterfront Festival Nancy Gavin said in a statement.
Earlier this year in April, the festival also announced a change to its name. The festival was previously called Redpath Waterfront Festival due to its title sponsor Redpath Sugar, but it is no longer the main sponsor of the event. However, Redpath Sugar will continue its involvement as a major programming partner.
“The Toronto Waterfront Festival has been, and continues to be, a wonderful avenue for us to support tourism, talent, and business, as well as engage with our community and bring people together,” Manager of Brand Development for Redpath Sugar Judy Yu said in a statement.
In addition to the big duck, Torontonians can also enjoy some fun programs, such as a DJ booth, local food trucks, and interactive games.
The festival kicks off on Saturday starting at 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and runs until Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
