Yes, we’ve covered this broad-shouldered Canadian rye whisky before, but we have to toast its achievements (and those of J.P. Wiser’s master blender, Don Livermore). It’s just been crowned the top bottling at the sixth annual Canadian Whisky Awards in Victoria. It’s the second time since 2013 that Lot No. 40 has taken the prize. Though it’s been made at the Hiram Walker Distillery for over 70 years, it’s only started to turn the heads of whisky geeks and consumers. The recipe has been tweaked since its initial 2012 release to allow for a fuller, more balanced sipping experience. Lot No. 40’s as aromatic as it is flavourful, and we dig it in old-fashioneds and in Old Pal variations with dry sherry and Aperol.
