Boots & Bourbon
A bit of the Wild West in the tame east, half down-home family restaurant (deep fried pickles, chili and Buffalo shrimp in a can, anyone?) and half country music venue. Cocktails like Grandma’s Texas Lemonade (vodka, blue curaçao, salty vanilla, lemon and peach) and slushy watermelon-cucumber margaritas (both $10) are fruity fuel for a night of line dancing, boot stomping and trying to go for more than 10 seconds on the mean mechanical bull.

Dakota Tavern
This rustic, old-timey saloon and beloved dive bar, which attracts serious music lovers and west-end hipsters alike, is one of the city’s premier venues to catch a solid set by homegrown talent. It’s got all the soul of a country bar with little of the typical kitsch. Check out the crazy-popular Bluegrass Brunch on weekends, which pairs live tunes with bottomless breakfasts.

Rock N’ Horse Saloon
250 Adelaide W, Toronto, Ontario M5H1X6Take a novelty trip to the country without having to leave the Entertainment District. There’s achy-breaky (my eardrums) new country (including karaoke every Wednesday) and enough bourbon to make you scream “Yee haw!” There’s pulled pork and potato skins and beans cooked in a can over a desert campfire (okay, I made up that last one). Best of all, you don’t need to be a cowboy to climb aboard the mechanical bull.
