While British Columbians have been enjoying Triple O’s for a few decades, Ontarians will only start experiencing them this month.

White Spot Hospitality announced on March 2 that it will open six Triple O’s – a spin-off of the White Spot restaurant chain that focusses on a menu of beef burgers, Kennebec fries and handmade shakes – in the Greater Toronto Area this year and in 2022.

The first location opened on March 2 in Mississauga at 1520 Courtneypark Drive East. The opening had been originally planned to open in 2020 but was delayed by six months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It’ll be followed by another one on Zenway Boulevard in Vaughan, slated to open its doors in April. Other Ontario locations will be in Toronto, a second spot in Vaughan and one in Hamilton. In addition, the company will also operate its On the Go Truck, a 30-foot mobile restaurant.

The company has ambitious plans to open a total of 30 locations in Ontario over the next five years.

In addition to free-standing locations, Triple O’s drive-thru shops in Ontario will be located at Pioneer and Ultramar gas stations (owing to the company’s relationship with Parkland Fuel Corporation).

“I can’t tell you how many times guests, potential franchisees and even famous expats living in Ontario ask us when we plan to open a restaurant in the province,” Triple O’s and White Spot President Warren Erhart stated in a news release. “Nobody’s business plan included a pandemic, and we had to adjust our timing and market entry.”

Triple O’s – a reference to its “Secret Triple O Sauce” – launched in 1997, and has 71 locations in British Columbia, Alberta and Hong Kong (which has five locations). For those wondering about the spunky name, according to the company, the Triple O moniker came from carhops filling out order slips, with O meaning extra sauce– and Triple O meaning even more sauce.

Nat Bailey originally launched White Spot as a travelling lunch counter in Vancouver, followed by a drive-in at Granville Street and 67th Avenue, in 1928.

At the end of November in 2020, White Spot shut down its location at 1616 West Georgia Street after 40 years of operation.
