More than 20 local businesses in West Queen West are getting into the Christmas spirit a little early. Starting December 1, the Salvation Army Women’s Shelter Florence Booth House will receive donations in exchange for customer discounts from now until Christmas Eve.
Each business has launched its individual incentive to encourage Torontonians to give back and shop local. For example, snack bar Come And Get It is giving customers a 15 per cent discount on food with a donation of winter clothes or non-perishable foods. Leigh & Harlow offers 20 per cent off on clothing with donations, and get 15 per cent off a 10-class pass at Downward Dog Yoga in exchange for donations (find all offers on West Queen West’s Facebook page). You can also spot the retailers in the event as they’ll be sporting a red balloon outside their front doors.
Florence Booth House is a 60-bed women’s shelter in Queen West with the mission to provide a safe space for women in need. Its website states that they strive to provide “…an encouraging, safe place that fosters growth and empowerment where staff and residents inspire and learn from each other and experience personal growth and healing.
