RADICAL GRACE (Rebecca Parrish, U.S.). 80 minutes. Rating: NNNNN
This exhilarating film gives new meaning to the phrase “holy shit.” Wait till you hear those words coming out of the mouth of one of five Catholic nuns bent on blending their faith with their passion for social justice.
All five began their spiritual journey in the 60s, when clergy and nuns were hitting the streets for peace and racial equality, and have continued to organize for decades, supporting Obama’s health care bill (against official Church policy) and pushing for the ordination of women.
The Vatican doesn’t like that, and issued an official reprimand in 2012.
Director Rebecca Parrish wisely lies back and lets these brilliant, courageous women express their frank opinions and engage with their communities as they redefine spirituality.
These nuns rock.
