Grand Analog at Wrongbar

GRAND ANALOG at Wrongbar, Saturday, November 16. Rating: NNN

Yes, they went on a half hour later than their already late 12:45 start time (after the Detroit singer/songwriter/producer/musician JMSN). And that was annoying. But the thing about local hip-hop/funk/rock band Grand Analog is, they have that infectious energy you can’t stay mad at for long. Pair that with a solid collection of tunes, and you can safely bet on a totally dancable Saturday night.

They were without their keyboardist, Catalist, but the remaining members were high-energy through a set of tunes mostly from their latest release, this past summer’s Modern Thunder. Drummer TJ Garcia, bassist Warren Bray and charming frontman Odario Williams managed to pick up the slack.

Songs like Howl (Like Wolves) and Rap Sheet (From This Day On) made us wonder why they’re not more famous yet, while Wild Animal Print – perfectly fitting, given Williams’ creature-printed sweater – exemplified the band’s ability to win over crowd members who might not necessarily be familiar with their music.
