For eight years now, the Locust have been combining the clever song titles of Dillinger Escape Plan, the decadent drug and keyboard use of Six Finger Satellite, the high-concept stage show of the Blue Man Group and the merchandising smarts of Matt Groening. Plague Soundscapes is their third album, the first since paring down to a four-piece. The songs are still short and to the point, the playing impressive and crazy, and the song titles would leave Dave Eggers in stitches, or at least make a sick person grin. They manage to plow through 23 songs in just over 21 minutes, which means on a very, very good day I could have sex for the entire length of the album. Revel in the sound of the Locust and be happy, or die trying. The Locust rock the Kathedral Friday (July 18).
