Amazon is investing their coins into a Toronto scientist and her plastic waste solution project.

Luna Yu, 28, is set to get a portion out of the e-commerce giant’s $2 billion climate fund and her idea is seemingly worth every penny.

The University of Toronto graduate is the CEO of Genecis, a company that turns food waste into plastics.

“As part of our commitment to support women climate tech entrepreneurs, Amazon’s Climate Pledge Fund is investing in Genecis, a bioplastics company founded by scientist Luna Yu. Genecis uses organic waste, like table food scraps, to create a biodegradable bioplastic that is an alternative to conventional plastic packaging,” Amazon wrote on their website.
