Black mayoral candidates are participating in a town hall in Toronto tonight

Ahead of the upcoming Toronto mayoral election on June 26, a discussion is being held this evening amongst primarily Black mayoral candidates. 

Non-profit organization Operation Black Vote Canada (OBVC) and other partner organizations are inviting residents to participate in their Black Community Municipal Town Hall in North York Tuesday night.

The seven mayoral candidates expected to be in attendance are leading contender Olivia Chow, policy analyst Chloe Brown, former Scarborough-Guildwood MPP Celina Caesar-Chavannes, Scarborough-Guildwood MPP Mitzie Hunter, former chief of police Mark Saunders, former city councillor Rob Davis and community activist/lawyer Knia Singh.

During the town hall, the mayoral candidates will have the chance to introduce themselves to Black communities in Toronto, as well as share their platform and ideas.

The OBVC has collaborated with the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists Canada (CBTU), Black Business and Professional Association (BBPA), Peach Youth, Little Jamaica and The Neighbourhood Group Community Service to bring together communities from across the city to discuss the challenges faced by people of African descent at this Town Hall.

The event will take place at Liuna Local 183, located at 1263 Wilson Avenue from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. 

Registration has now closed. 

The mayoral by-election is set for June 26.
