Canadians are reacting to King Charles’ cancer diagnosis.

The monarchy made the announcement on Monday via an official statement

“During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer,” the statement reads.

The letter goes on to say that the King began treatment and has been asked by doctors to step down from his in-person duties.

However, during this time he will still handle business affairs and oversee official paperwork.

“The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible,” it continued.

According to the Guardian, a source said that Prince Harry caught up with his dad regarding the cancer diagnosis and made arrangements to visit the U.K. to see him soon.

Since the news broke, Canadians have been reacting, including political figures.

“I, like Canadians across the country and people around the world, am thinking of His Majesty King Charles III as he undergoes treatment for cancer. We’re sending him our very best wishes – and hoping for a fast and full recovery,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted on Monday.

“On behalf of the people of Ontario, I wish His Majesty a fast return to good health. God save the King!,” Ontario Premier Doug Ford shared.

“On behalf of our members, The Royal Canadian Legion sends His Majesty King Charles our well-wishes for a full recovery and good health,” The Royal Canadian Legion said.

The internet has already gone into a frenzy over the news and some users were quick to remind people that cancer is no laughing matter.

“Guys I’m no royalist but can we please have some respect. King Charles has cancer. Having cancer is a terrifying experience, no matter how privileged you are. Now is not the time for digs,” one X user said.
