Photos of former Toronto Mayor John Tory’s face and name covered up with what looks like a paper bag at Toronto Pearson Airport are surfacing online.

An image posted by a Reddit user on Tuesday shows a plaque that reads “The Mayors of Toronto Pearson’s community welcome you,” in both English and French, shared in the thread r/toronto.

The plaque includes Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie and Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown, and Tory’s face is the only one covered up

Some Reddit users commented on the post, noting this is not the first time a Toronto politician has made a spectacle at the airport:

The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) says Tory’s picture was covered by a non-GTAA employee.

“The paper covering has been removed, but of course the signage will eventually be revised and re-installed to account for the change in leadership,” a spokesperson said in an email to Now Toronto.

This comes just days after Tory officially resigned following a scandal-filled end to his nine-year run as Toronto mayor.

Tory confirmed on Feb. 10 that he had an “inappropriate relationship” with a former staffer, cheating on his wife of over 40 years.

Deputy Mayor Jennifer McKelvie took over the mayor’s office this past Friday at 5 p.m., when Tory’s resignation was made official.

Although Tory had announced his plan to resign immediately, he still stayed on as mayor to ensure his budget be approved by city council last Wednesday.
On Thursday, city staff announced a by-election for a new mayor is set for June 26.
