Canadians are reacting after former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took to Instagram to share a photo of himself shopping and embracing a quieter life after leaving office last week.

The 53-year-old father of three posted a lighthearted snapshot of a cart full of kitchen accessories while standing in an aisle at Canadian Tire on Monday. This was the first post he shared after passing the torch to Liberal Leader Mark Carney.

“Gotta love a Monday morning at Canadian Tire,” he captioned his post.

The post quickly drew attention online, with social media users sharing their reactions.

“Canadian Tire, the last great Canadian department store, just a normal guy shopping on a Monday morning. Thank you Justin for your hard work. Now take it easy and unwind. You deserve a rest,” a user on Instagram commented.

“One day this guy’s leading our country and the next he’s taking selfies at Canadian Tire like an average Canadian dad,” another user said.

“Enjoy your private life! Thank you for your service! Such a great Canadian moment, shopping at Canadian Tire,” another user commented.

“Trudeau posting himself shopping solo at a Canadian Tire is the most wholesome, honest thing a Canadian can do during these trying times,” a user on Threads posted.

During his almost decade-long tenure in office, Trudeau introduced progressive policies and his government prioritized climate action, reconciliation with Indigenous communities, and focused on diversity and inclusion, among many other things.
