REVIEW: Canadian singer Faouzia stuns Toronto with a sold-out cinematic show at Danforth Music Hall

Faouzia brought in the vocals in her dramatic storytelling of the Film Noir Tour on Wednesday at The Danforth Music Hall.

Canadian singer Faouzia performs live on stage at Danforth Music Hall in Toronto during a sold-out cinematic concert, with atmospheric lighting and a band in the background.
Faouzia sang her heart out with a range of vocals at her Wednesday night concert at The Danforth Music Hall.

What to know

  • Faouzia performed to a sold-out crowd at The Danforth Music Hall on her Film Noir Tour.
  • She showcased her trilingual talents, singing in English, French, and Arabic.
  • Fans embraced the Film Noir theme, dressing up and creating a cinematic concert atmosphere.
  • The setlist blended new hits like “LOST MY MIND IN PARIS” with fan favourites, highlighting her powerhouse vocals.

Faouzia performed at the sold-out venue, Danforth Music Hall, with her cinematic pop spectacle, blending English, French, and Arabic vocals into a vibrant, multilingual performance that left the crowd in a state of cheers and awe last night.

The Moroccan-Canadian singer took the stage Wednesday night at her sold-out “Film Noir Tour” at The Danforth Music Hall.

Faouzia has sold out all three Canadian dates on her tour in under an hour, with a second date added in Montreal due to overwhelming demand.

From the sold-out show alone, you can tell Toronto was ready for her performance, and she didn’t fall short of expectations.

This was my first time attending a show at Danforth Music Hall, but the venue was well organized in handling the lineup and security checks.

During the line-up, I spoke to some people about their outfits, and saw fans come out with the Film Noir aesthetic.

This one Torontonian dressed up in a white wedding-looking dress for the song, “Unethical.”

Another was dressed in an all-black, sophisticated look, inspired by Film Noir vibes.

After waiting about 15 minutes (despite being all the way at the back of the line), my friend Micaela and I got in!

Merch, including vinyls, posters, and clothing, were right at the entrance, with prices ranging from $30 for small posters up to $125 for a hoodie.

We headed into the floor section and heard people talking about which songs they were most looking forward to.

At 8:30 p.m. on the dot, Faouzia started the show.

She came out in an all-black floral knee-length dress, right on brand with her Film Noir vibes.

Faouzia’s powerful voice carried the room, and fans were left in awe of her vocal range. Only after she sang and invited fans to sing did the crowd start cheering.

As a French Canadian, I loved hearing my first language blended into what’s becoming mainstream music.

Faouzia sang some of her Film Noir songs, including “LOST MY MIND IN PARIS,” “UNETHICAL,” “SWEET FEVER,” and “PRETTY STRANGER,” among many others.

The powerful vocal range in those songs made it feel like a cinematic experience, as if time froze and the moment felt unreal.

She also sang “Minefields,” a song with whom she collaborated on with John Legend — I wish he came out on stage for the song too, but one can only wish…

Then, she came out with some older songs: “RIP Love” and “Born Without A Heart.”

During “RIP Love,” she started dancing, and the crowd’s energy came alive.

But as someone who’s been following her music since my childhood, I wished there were more of her old songs. There was even someone in the crowd who kept yelling, begging for her to sing “This Mountain,” yet she didn’t.

From the crowd’s energy and Film Noir-inspired fits to Faouzia’s killer vocal range and stage presence, this was a not-to-miss concert I have no regrets about attending.
