While the number of new COVID cases in recent days seems to be headed in the right direction, testing is lagging significantly behind targets set by the Ford government.
Sunday’s 3,947 new cases, for example, are based on fewer than 46,700 tests. Some 25,641 test results are still pending. The province is reporting 24 deaths. Saturday’s 4,094 cases were based on 52,160 tests.
The all-important reproduction number is on the decline. But the positivity rate for the virus continues to hover around 9 per cent. Of the 2,126 people in the hospital, 851 are in intensive care.
According to the province, 99,535 people were vaccinated yesterday, compared to more than 126,000 on Friday, bringing the provincial total to more than 4.6 million. Of those, just over 3 per cent have been fully vaccinated.
