What to know
- Statistics Canada is hiring 32,000 census jobs for March to July 2026
- Available jobs include door-to-door enumerators and crew leaders
In preparation for the 2026 census, Statistics Canada will have over 32,000 open jobs to help make it happen.
Every five years, all Canadian households are required to fill out the Census of Population. The data helps inform the Government of Canada about policy decisions and is used to plan public services — healthcare, education and transportation, as well as maintaining equitable representation across the country – in both urban and rural communities.
According to Statistics Canada’s website, the census “provides a detailed and comprehensive statistical portrait of Canada that is vital to our country” and is “the only data source that consistently provides high-quality statistical information for both small geographic areas and small population groups across Canada.”
From March to July, the agency will be staffing over 32,000 people for both supervisory and non-supervisory roles. These jobs include door-to-door enumerators and crew leaders, with wages ranging from $25.87 per hour for enumerators to $31.32 per hour for crew leaders.
To qualify to work for the census, applicants must have reached the age of majority in the province or territory of residence by the time they apply, be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have a valid work permit, and have a Canadian home address.
People who qualify can submit an application on the official census jobs website.
