An Ontario wildlife sanctuary has shared an update regarding the baby raccoon that was previously found in a vehicle after a driver was stopped for drunk driving in Huntsville, Ont.
Last week, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested an impaired driver in a parking lot on Cann Street after receiving a public report.
On arrival, officers also found a baby raccoon sitting in the back seat. Police say it is unclear why the driver was in possession of the animal.
The raccoon was sent to Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, an organization that specializes in the rehabilitation of native Ontario wildlife.

Recently, the sanctuary released an update about the condition of the baby raccoon in its care and even provided it with a fitting name.
“Fondly known as Dewy (short for DUI) we are happy to report that the raccoon is doing well,” the Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary said in an Instagram post.
“Dewy is about 8 to 10 weeks old, and will remain here in quarantine for a few more days before joining other raccoons in our nursery. He will then be released back into the wild this fall,” it continued.
The sanctuary says Dewy is one of approximately 1,000 wild animals sent to them each year.
The OPP said a 39-year-old man from South River has been charged with operation while impaired, breach of conditions and cannabis readily available.
