Wet‘n’Wild will be reviewing its safety protocols for its remaining summer events after several altercations broke out at an adults-only event on Saturday, resulting in police intervention.

The Brampton waterpark hosted its first of three SHOCKWAVE after hours nights on Saturday.

The event is held for ages 21 and older, and invites guests for a night at the park with music, live DJs, drink specials, and foam.

However, shortly after the event began, various disturbances were happening outside the entrance to the water park.

Videos posted to TikTok show a large crowd of attendees storming and pushing down a fence, while employees attempt to hold it up, along with police presence outside the park.

According to another TikTok user, a fight allegedly broke out in front of the gates, resulting in staff stopping people from entering the site around 10 p.m. despite the event supposed to be ending at midnight.

According to a statement from Wet‘n’Wild, Peel police were called to assist security and manage crowds after a group of people began causing a disruption at the park’s entrance.

“Peel Officers responded promptly and assisted our security team in managing the situation. One minor injury was brought to our attention and treated on-site,” the park said in a statement to Now Toronto.

The park  said the event still continued for guests who were already inside, and safety protocols are now being reviewed.

“Wet’n’Wild Toronto is working with Peel Regional Police and we will also be reviewing our internal procedures ahead of our next SHOCKWAVE event,” the statement said.

Peel Regional Police confirmed to Now Toronto that it was called to the park around 9:30 p.m on Saturday, due to an assault at the park.

“Police arrived and learned that there was an altercation amongst two different groups of people. There were no serious physical injuries reported, and no criminal charges laid,” the statement said.

While there were no serious injuries reported, the aftermath has still left many attendees and social users upset by the disturbance.

“This was a great idea when I saw the promotion for it, and it would have been such a fun event, so embarrassing for it to end like this,” a TikTok user said.

“That’s so disappointing for a 21+ event,” another user said.

The incident comes one week after AFROFEST at Toronto’s Woodbine Park,  which also had security incidents and even arrests made, some of which involving people as young as teenagers.

Despite SHOCKWAVE being an event for those aged 21 and older, some people  feel some events in Toronto should have the age limits raised.

“I keep saying Toronto needs to start making events 28+ at this point,” a TikTok user said.

“Adult events going forward should start at 25 and up,” another user said.

According to Wet‘n’Wild, the next SHOCKWAVE event will move forward on July 26, followed by the final event on Aug. 9.
