‘This is crazy,’ Canadians are laughing at U.S. Cactus Club’s strict dress code

Cactus Club’s U.S. expansion comes with a dress code so strict it’s leaving Canadians in disbelief — back home, sweatpants have always been welcome.

What to know

  • A TikToker went viral after being denied entry to Cactus Club’s Miami location despite wearing a skirt and top, warning followers the chain “runs a strict program.”
  • Canadians flooded the comments, joking that Toronto locations have always welcomed guests in tracksuits and sweats — no questions asked.
  • Earls Restaurants jumped into the drama, commenting, “We’d accept you, boo” on the viral video.

Cactus Club’s new U.S. locations are enforcing a very strict dress code, leaving Canadians who show up in sweats laughing.

It has been a few months since Canadian restaurant chain Cactus Club expanded into the United States, bringing with it a surprisingly demanding dress code.

A woman recently went viral for warning Americans about the Miami Cactus Club’s dress code, prompting a wave of Canadians to humorously compare it to the more relaxed entrance at home.

The creator shared that Cactus Club “runs a strict program,” as she was denied entry even though she was wearing a skirt and a shirt. “So just make sure you put that sh*t on for real because they’re not f**king around,” she said in the video.

The video made it onto Canadians’ For You Page and they immediately ran into the comments section. “This is crazy because in Toronto you could literally go in a tracksuit if you wanted to,” one TikTok user commented. “Knew this was Miami cuz cactus club Toronto has seen me at my worst,” another user wrote.

The post gained enough traction that Earls Restaurants commented under the video, We’d accept you, boo.”

But this isn’t the first time Cactus Club has faced criticism. In the past, a DJ and his coworkers shared their experiences working at the establishment online, alleging that the restaurant engaged in racially discriminatory behaviour.

A TikTok user also shared her experience online, alleging the Miami Cactus Club location is racist.

@realblackbarbiee They claimed our reservation was canceled but we just got a text stating our table was ready 🤣🤣 mind yall another person told us we were checked in, my sisters stood at the front while me and my mother moved the car for the valet if she couldn’t wear the top why you didn’t say that from the jump why allow her to stand there knowing she couldnt come in like that white man just didn’t want us to come in racist ass bitch 🤣 #catusclubcafe #catusclub #miami ♬ original sound – Shauna | Content Creator

She explained the restaurant claimed her reservation was cancelled while she got a text saying the table was ready.

Comments stated their lack of surprise as this isn’t the first incident posted online.

“This the second video wow,” one TikTok user wrote. “They was racist asf told us our sister couldn’t get in with her outfit but let two white women in with smaller clothes and mid section showing…?” one user related in the comments.

Another user disappointingly wrote, “A lot of restaurants here are racist to Black people.”

Now Toronto reached out to Cactus Club for a response but the restaurant chain did not reply in time for publication.
