Toronto’s FIFA price tag: A family of four could spend more than $3,100

Data from a new study compared prices for tickets, transportation, hotels, food and drinks for a family of four across all 16 host cities.

A new study has found the most expensive cities to visit for FIFA World Cup festivities – and Toronto made the sixth spot.

When comparing prices for tickets, transportation, hotels, food and drinks for a family of four across all 16 cities hosting the World Cup, the ticket data company ticket-compare.com found that Toronto just missed being in the top five most expensive cities.

According to the study, a family of four would have to save for about 2.2 months in order to save enough money to afford to visit Toronto during FIFA, totalling to about $3,183 to afford all the necessities as well as tickets.

Toronto has already been facing an affordability crisis, with housing costs having skyrocketed in recent years and prices on groceries, and hotels rising prior to FIFA inflation.

With the total broken down, families can expect to pay around $600 for one cheap ticket, about $54 for parking and/or transit, $283 per night at a three star hotel, and $447 for the family of four’s food and drinks.

According to the study, Toronto’s cheapest ticket price at the time was $329 dollars for the Senegal vs Iraq match on June 26.

According to the data company, the best city to see a World Cup game on a budget would be Monterrey, Mexico, with families needing to save $2,174 to afford the tickets, hotel and other necessities during the trip.

Miami took the top spot, being the most expensive to visit and watch a World Cup game in. A family of four would have to save for 3.8 months to be able to afford the $5,664 price tag. THe U.S. city was followed by New York and New Jersey at $4,341 and 2.9 months, Mexico City, Mexico at $4,048 and 2.7 months, Guadalajara, Mexico at $3,913 and 2.6 months, and Boston at $3,394 and 2.3 months.

Ticket Compare calculated how many months of discretionary spending the average American family of four would need, with an average of $1,477 spent on recreation services, recreational goods and vehicles, dining out and hotels.

Using data from June 2, 2026, they compared the earlier noted necessities, while also excluding quarter-final and later matches to the study, as the price surges would affect the information gathered.
