After weeks of rainy, cold and gloomy weather, Toronto is finally bracing for summertime as warmer temperatures are expected to make their way into the city this week.

Just ahead of the official start of summer, the city is set to experience a warm but unsettled pattern, with temperatures hovering around the mid 20s. A mix of sun, cloud, rain, and thunderstorms are also expected throughout the week.

The weekly forecast calls for daytime highs of 27 C on Tuesday, 25 C on Wednesday, 23 C on Thursday, and 23 C on Friday.

The potential for even warmer weather, reaching the upper 20s, is possible between Tuesday and Thursday, but the risk of rain and thunderstorms may dampen the city’s chance to experience sweltering summertime heat.

“It’s a little bit uncertain at this point, mostly because we’re also expecting some low-pressure systems to come through in the Tuesday through Thursday time. Bringing showers and potential thunderstorms, so depending on the exact timing of when those systems make their way through that could alter the full potential of that warming for mid-week,” Steven Flisfeder, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, told Now Toronto on Monday.

Seasonal daytime highs this time of year in Toronto average around 24 C, Flisfeder added. The likelihood of above seasonal temperatures between Tuesday and Thursday depends on how the cold front and smaller pressure systems play out, according to Flisfeder.

Despite a 30-60 per cent per cent chance of showers in the city between Tuesday and Thursday, Torontonians can expect to see improved conditions by Friday, with a mix of sun and cloud.

Meanwhile, Torontonians can expect to experience a warmer-than-average summer this year as higher-than-normal temperatures are set for Ontario, according to Environment Canada.

As the city looks forward to basking in the heat, Flisfeder says consistency may not be guaranteed.

“You will still have variation in temperatures relative to normal but when everything is combined above normal is what we’re expecting.”
