The Toronto Maple Leafs is hosting its annual Pride game tomorrow to show its appreciation for the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
The event is in collaboration with the Toronto Marlies and is a way to “foster an environment that respects all individuals of diverse sexual and gender identities,” their website reads.
“We have a responsibility to ensure our game is safe and welcoming for all to participate in. We are proud to celebrate Pride and the 2SLGBTQ+ community, and creating a safe space for individuals to be their authentic selves,” their website continued.
The game will feature the team wearing Pride Game shirts designed by Canadian illustrator Jon Hanlan, whose work consists of vibrant colours, organic shapes and whimsical craftsmanship.
The game will include Pride Night Food specials, such as Craigs Cookies at section 110 and Norm & Lenore chocolate found throughout the stadium.
The event will also host a series of performances from 2SLGBTQ+ members, including celebrity impressionist drag queen, Vision Drag.
The organization is also inviting community groups such as Pride Toronto, The 519 and Toronto Public Service Network to the game.
To show support, fans can purchase NHL Pride apparel in store or online at Real Sports Apparel where 20 per cent of the proceeds will go to the Toronto Gay Hockey Association (TGHA).
The TGHA is a non-contact hockey league for gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, queer, and heterosexual people over the age of nineteen. It’s known as one of the largest gay hockey leagues in the world with 14 teams and over 210 active members.
The Maple Leafs will play against the Columbus Blue Jackets at 7 p.m. tomorrow at Scotiabank Arena.
