As Toronto continues to celebrate its role as a host city for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a new report suggests the city’s tournament venue wasn’t among the most Instagram-worthy.
A new study by gaming studio Galaxsys ranked all 16 stadiums that hosted matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup based on their online popularity and social media engagement.
While Vancouver’s BC Place cracked the top 10, Toronto Stadium, the temporary tournament name for BMO Field, ranked near the bottom.
The study analyzed each venue by tracking Google search interest, the number of images and videos associated with the stadium across Google and YouTube, Instagram hashtag usage, and social media engagement to determine an overall “Instagrammability” score.
According to the report, the 10 most Instagrammable FIFA World Cup stadiums were:
- Gillette Stadium
- MetLife Stadium
- SoFi Stadium
- Estadio Banorte (Estadio Azteca)
- AT&T Stadium
- Hard Rock Stadium
- Arrowhead Stadium
- BC Place
- Lincoln Financial Field
- NRG Stadium
Gillette Stadium topped the rankings after generating more than 250,000 online photos and attracting more than 640,000 followers on its official Instagram account. The report also found the venue had the highest engagement rate among all World Cup stadiums.
Canada’s highest-ranked venue was Vancouver’s BC Place, which placed eighth overall with an Instagrammability score of 35. According to the report, the stadium generated approximately 919,000 Google searches, more than 126,000 Instagram hashtags and over 77,000 Instagram followers during the study period.
Toronto Stadium ranked 15th out of 16 venues, earning an Instagrammability score of four.
The venue, which was temporarily rebranded from BMO Field for the tournament and expanded with temporary seating, recorded more than 3.8 million Google searches, roughly 137,000 Instagram followers and around 47,000 Instagram hashtags, according to the report.
Toronto Stadium hosted six FIFA World Cup matches, including one knockout-stage match. Following its final match, crews began removing the temporary “Toronto Stadium” branding as the venue transitions back to BMO Field.
