The TTC says it is supporting GO Transit by providing extra service during the evening rush hour after a GO train derailed at Union Station Monday morning, cancelling and delaying several trips across the network. Delays are expected to continue into the evening commute.

In an update posted to its website Monday afternoon, GO Transit said a train departing Union Station came off the track at low speed and made contact with a track switch, resulting in signal issues and a reduced number of tracks available at the station.

“Train movement is limited, and delays are expected to continue through the afternoon and evening rush hour,” the agency said.

GO Transit added that afternoon service will be reduced due to limited track availability and is advising customers to travel earlier and allow extra time.

In a statement to Now Toronto, Metrolinx says the following service levels will be in place for evening service:

  • Lakeshore East Line: 30‑minute service.
  • Lakeshore West Line: 30‑minute service.
  • Kitchener Line: 30‑minute service; no Bramalea turnbacks; express trains will be making all stops.
  • UP Express: Operating on a 30‑minute frequency.
  • Milton Line: Four outbound trips from Union at 16:10, 17:10, 18:10, and 19:10, all departing from Track 10.
  • Barrie Line: Hourly bidirectional service.
  • Richmond Hill Line: 60‑minute homebound service.
  • Stouffville Line: 60‑minute homebound service.

As for UP Express, service has resumed and trains are running every 30 minutes.

Service across the GO network was disrupted shortly after 8:00 a.m. during the morning rush hour, when trains heading toward Union Station were halted or cancelled, leaving some passengers delayed or forced to seek alternative travel options.

As a result, the TTC tells Now Toronto it is supporting GO Transit and UP Express service with additional transit options.

The TTC said it will supplement 509 Harbourfront streetcar service with extra buses for passengers travelling as far as Exhibition GO.

“For GO customers who normally take the UP Express between Union Station and Bloor GO/Dundas West Station, buses will run in addition to streetcars on the 505 Dundas route, connecting to Dundas West Station,” the agency said.

The TTC also noted that additional trains will operate on Line 1 Yonge-University as an alternative connection between Union Station and Downsview Park GO.

There is still no word on when regular service across the GO Transit network will resume.
