“Weapons” found on G20 protesters

A list of the “weapons” police say was seized from G20 protesters during and before the summit and displayed for the media Tuesday during a press conference at police headquarters.

We use the word weapons advisedly here because although some of the items collected by police could be used as weapons, most are actually items one would find in the back of almost any car trunk.

Police chief Bill Blair, asked about a chainsaw and crossbow on display by one member of the media, admitted those items were taken in an unrelated arrest almost a week before the G20.

  • Catcher’s (as in baseball) blocker
  • PVC pipe (yes, the kind used by plumbers)
  • Chains (some with padlocks). To lock up bikes?
  • Level (the kind used by carpenters and bricklayers)
  • Several cans of spray paint
  • Several pairs of goggles
  • Bicycle helmets
  • Golf balls (presumably for throwing at police)
  • Megaphone (a free speech threat?)
  • Shin pads and elbow pads (of the variety familiar to roller bladders and skateboarders)
  • More helmets (boarder type)
  • Hand saw
  • Crowbars
  • Power drill
  • Clubs (baseball bats wrapped in padding)
  • An axe
  • More goggles
  • Camouflage clothing
  • Quebec flag thingy (it has lots of Fleur de lis on it)
  • One hammer
  • Two sledgehammers
  • Tire irons
  • Bolt cutters
  • Two field hockey sticks
  • Air gun
  • Handheld combination pick axe and hatchet
  • Machetes
  • Medieval knight’s garment
  • Tennis balls (not sure if they were filled with anything)
  • Military helmet (with Food Not Bombs written in marker on top)
  • Walkie talkies
  • Bamboo sticks
  • Wood stakes (from placards?)
  • Shields (that look like they were put together by a sixth grade theatre troupe)
  • Arrows (that police say could have been lighted and shot at police)
  • Piece of copper pipe.[rssbreak]
