It is no news that Toronto has one of the most expensive real-estate markets in Canada, with the average price of a detached home in the city’s 416 area at $1,668,973 in April, according to the Toronto Regional Real Estate Board (TRREB).
For many Torontonians, securing their first home with these prices might be the most important financial decision of their lives requiring years of planning, and even equity-building hacks such as scaling back their weddings or choosing recreational homes instead of traditional ones.

On the other hand, a report by real-estate listing website Zoocasa is revealing that some Toronto Blue Jays’ players would be able to buy dozens of homes at that price with only one season’s salary.

The study puts the team’s first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at the top of the list, being able to afford about 33 detached homes at average price, with his salary for one season being $55,495,713.
Placed second is pitcher Dylan Cease, who makes $34,894,285 in one season and could purchase just under 21 detached homes. After him is George Springer with just under 20 homes and a $33,350,000 salary. Pitcher Kevin Gausman could afford 19 homes with $31,740,000 in one season.

Meanwhile, at the bottom of the list are Adam Macko, Yohendrick Pinango, and Spencer Miles who each make $1,076,400 and would fall short of buying a detached home in Toronto at an average price.
Combined, all players make $283,714,029 and could buy a total of 170 homes in Toronto in a single season.
How expensive are detached homes in Toronto right now?
At the same time, according to the Canadian Mortgage Housing Corporation (CMHC), the average income in Canadian households is $106,300.
According to the report’s math, the Blue Jays’ four highest-paid players collectively earn more than 2,500 average Canadian household incomes in a single season.
The average price of a detached home in Toronto stood at $1,372,688 in April, according to the TRREB, with homes in the 416 area priced at $1,668,973 and those in the 905 area at $1,257,987.
