Heat warning issued in Toronto ahead of weekend packed with outdoor festivals

As Toronto gears up for a festival-packed weekend, Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for the city, with the temperature expected to feel like 40 with the humidity on Saturday. 

Temperatures are set to hit 27 C on Friday, feeling more like 32 C with the humidity. It will cool down to 17 C overnight.

Temperatures are then expected to heat up as we get further into the weekend, hitting 31 C on Saturday, with humidity making it feel more like 41 C, with an overnight low of 24 C. There’s also a chance of showers and a risk of a thunderstorm on Saturday. 

Then on Sunday, temperatures will reach a high of 33 C, falling to 22 C overnight.

On Friday, Environment Canada issued a heat warning for Saturday and Sunday in Toronto. Officials are urging people to take precautions, including limiting direct exposure to the sun and heat, wearing lightweight, light-coloured, loose-fitting clothes, and drinking water often.

Despite the soaring temperatures, people will undoubtedly be out and about this weekend, enjoying the city’s long roster of festivals.
This includes Afrofest, North America’s largest free African music festival. The three-day event will take over Downsview Park from Friday to Sunday, inviting attendees to enjoy three full days of food, live performances, and community.

Open Canvas Music & Arts Festival is taking over Trillium Park at Ontario Place for two days of fun. The event runs Saturday and Sunday from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., boasting two stages and a lineup of 20-plus artists.

The Beaches International Jazz Festival also kicks off this weekend for a month-long celebration. The event will put live music front and centre, celebrating jazz with various events in several different parks in the neighbourhood.
