It’s a good time to be a women’s sports fan in Toronto! The Tempo took on Connecticut on Wednesday night, in a game that saw the players go back and forth with a close score for a lot of the match. But the Tempo took the win with the final score landing at 106-102.
It was an important night for Brittney Sykes, AKA Slim, who scored a whopping 38 points for the second time in her career with the Tempo. The first was back on May 17, when the Toronto women’s team took on the LA Sparks, winning 106-96.
It was also a big night for Aaliyah Edwards, who secured 24 points, a career-high for the 23-year-old Kingston, Ontario native.
The team’s Head coach Sandy Brondello called her team “a resilient bunch.”
“I told them before the game, I said, ‘Do not underestimate this team. They’re very tough, they’re long, they’re physical.’ I thought their post players created a lot of difficulties for us early, but we hung in there,” Brondello told reporters after the game.
“I think our intensity picked up. It’s a great challenge, but we’re capable of it. We got locked in,” she said.
