In a recent podcast appearance, former prime minister Justin Trudeau’s son shared his thoughts about his dad’s girlfriend and pop star Katy Perry.
Xavier Trudeau, who is also known as Xav since launching his debut single “Til The Nights Done” last February, appeared in the podcast Can’t Be Censored, led by former CBC anchor Travis Dhanraj and CP24 reporter Karman Wong.
During the interview, Xav revealed he has a positive impression of his dad’s new girlfriend, saying she has even offered him music advice.
“When I’m really happy with a song, I send it [to Perry]. She’s always happy to give me advice or tell me what I should change,” he said.
The artist also said Trudeau appears to be happy in the new relationship with the pop star, who he says is “down to earth” despite being internationally famous.
“She’s always happy to give me advice or tell me what I should change. She’s super nice. She’s super down to earth. She’s great. And I think that my dad’s happy, so that’s important.”
Trudeau and Perry have been one of the most talked about couples since rumours of them dating started circulating in July of last year before they made their relationship public in the fall, with photos of the couples sparking mixed reactions online.

In the interview, Dhanraj said Xav’s mother and Trudeau’s former wife Sophie had described the new relationship as “noise” during a previous interview on the podcast.
While Xav agreed with his mother’s description, he said that he is used to photos of his family being shared and sparking reaction online, even before Trudeau and Perry’s relationship came public.
“Just like any other picture of my dad or my mom or just my dad. My life is just so crazy sometimes. Sometimes I just sit there…and I’m staring at the ceiling and I’m just like, ‘What is my life? What the hell?’ I just laugh. But the reality of it is: it’s my life, what can I do?”
This is not the first time Xav has publicly shared his thoughts about Perry, since his father’s relationship started.
Earlier this year, in a TikTok video by food content creator Guy Hobeika, the artist praised the singer and said he has spoken with her about various topics, including music.
