DOWNTOWN
- Walrus Pub & Beer Hall, the latest offering from Vancouver chain Donnelly Group (also of Belfast Love and Death and Taxes), is open at 187 Bay (at Wellington) in the former home of Far Niente.
- Don’t want none unless you got coffee-caramel-flavoured buns, hon! PappaRoti, a Malaysian snack chain, is opening at 280 Spadina (at Dundas).
- Sukoshi Mart is about to bring the Japanese convenience store experience to 160 Baldwin (at Spadina).
- Thor Espresso Bar is opening another location at 180 John (at Stephanie).
- Egg Bae is about to replace Banh Mi Bar at 189 Augusta (at Dundas).
- As previously reported, culinary gift shop and bookstore Good Egg (267 Augusta, at Oxford) will be closing in June, and liquidation sales have already begun.
NORTH
- Korean dessert spot Milkcow has announced plans to expand into Toronto with a location at 2651 Yonge (at Blythwood).
EAST
- Wine bar Skin + Bones has closed after five years at 980 Queen East. “In late summer 2017 we began to experience a decline in traffic and the reality is we just never recovered despite exhausting all efforts,” the owners wrote in a Facebook post.
- Signs are up for El Charro at 788 Broadview (at Danforth) in the cursed spot formerly occupied by KO Burger.
WEST
- The latest Toronto eatery to open a quick-service spinoff: Awai. The iconoclastic all-vegan eatery will soon have a satellite location at 680 College (at Euclid). Chef Nathan Isberg confirms via email he won’t be involved with the new space.
- Three new vegan concepts – Prohibition Pie, NYM and Vegandale Bracitorium (which, we can assume, is a brewery) will soon be joining Doomie’s and Mythology Diner at Queen West and Dufferin.
