Drag bar Crews & Tangos says customer, performer tested positive for COVID-19

The popular Village bar is temporarily closing and urging customers to get tested

Popular Church Street drag bar Crews & Tangos is temporarily closing and urging patrons to get tested for COVID-19.

In two statements posted on social media, the bar said it found out this week that a drag performer and a customer tested positive for the virus.

Crews & Tangos said the customer who tested positive visited the bar on September 18 between 8:30 pm and 11 pm. The drag performer who tested positive’s last performance was on the same date.

The customer notified the bar of the diagnosis via email on September 23.

The bar has asked customers who were at Crews on September 18 and 20 to get COVID-19 tests.

“Although this customer may have been unaware that a testing would result in a positive COVID-19 outcome, there was no way for us to know beyond the prevention measures we have in place at the moment,” the statement reads.

“We take these matters seriously and we will have to close our doors for 4-5 days to do the necessary things to ensure the safety of our staff, patrons and anyone that walks through our doors.”

The bar says it will ensure all staff are tested before returning to work and will undertake a thorough cleaning before reopening in four to five days.

COVID-19 cases are rising dramatically in Ontario. To curb spread, the province brought in new restrictions on bars, restaurants and strip clubs that took effect at midnight.
