Ontario reported 1,417 new COVID-19 cases and 32 more deaths on November 18.
Today’s death toll is the highest since mid-June. Of the people who died, 27 were 80 or older, three were between 60 and 79 years old and two were between 40 and 59 years old.
However, the number of active cases in the province declined in the past day as recoveries outpaced confirmed cases.
“Locally, there are 463 new cases in Peel, 410 in Toronto and 178 in York Region,” Health Minister Christine Elliott said on Twitter. “There are 1,495 more resolved cases and over 33,400 tests completed.”
The number of confirmed active cases is 12,822, down from 12,932 yesterday.
The seven-day rolling average for new infections is now 1,422.
The province recorded 1,249 new cases on Tuesday, 1,487 cases on Monday, 1,248 cases on Sunday, a record high of 1,581 cases on Saturday, 1,396 infections on Friday and 1,575 on Thursday.
Hospitalizations have risen again to 535, with 127 people in intensive care and 78 on ventilators.
Labs in the province processed 33,440 tests and there is a backlog of 36,671 test specimens. The positivity rate is now 4.2 per cent.
To date, there have been 98,162 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ontario since the outbreak began. Of those, 81,925 are resolved and 3,415 people have died.
