Editor’s Note: Since publishing, Tyrese Gibson’s concert in Toronto set for May 30, 2025 has been cancelled.
Multi-talented entertainer Tyrese Gibson is bringing the heat back to Toronto this month, with a one-night-only performance filled with soulful melodies, smooth moves, and pure R&B magic.
Taking the stage at the Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto on May 30, this marks his first visit to the city in more than 10 years and he’s already eager to reconnect with his Canadian fans in a deeply personal and intimate setting.
The Grammy-nominated singer and actor shared his excitement for the upcoming performance during a recent interview with Now Toronto, recalling fond memories of his time in Toronto. He particularly reminisced about living in the city for five months to shoot the 2004 hit film Four Brothers, highlighting the lasting connection he feels with both Canada and its people.
“I genuinely love my fans and supporters in Canada,” Gibson said.
“They’re always in the theatres to see my movies first, every album, ready to support and give love. I’m just grateful.”
While in Toronto, he says he looks forward to indulging in some of his favourite local food. He remembers enjoying chicken and shrimp alfredo during his time here, and hopes to get a taste of some Jamaican oxtail dishes too!
The “Sweet Lady” crooner is no stranger to large-scale performances, having entertained audiences around the world as part of his decades-long career. Known for his dynamic stage presence, he plans to bring the same energy to Toronto. He intends to perform around 20 of his greatest hits, promising to take the audience on a spontaneous journey through his music from 1998’s Tyrese to his 2024 album Beautiful Pain.
“What I tend to do when I get on stage is just read the room and I do whatever the room tells me to do,” he explained.
“I don’t really have no preset menu. I just look forward to catching a vibe.”
Beyond his music, Gibson also wants to share a more personal side with his Canadian fans. Last September, he released Wildflower, an emotional short film dedicated to his late mother where he dons a much shaggier appearance than he’s known for. He says that he finds irony in the fact that she gave birth to an R&B singer, and passed away on Valentine’s Day three years ago, the day when R&B typically holds its deepest meaning.
“I just had to push through and capture my vulnerabilities on camera with that video dedicated to my mom. That’s all I was trying to do, tell that story,” he said.
“I wanted to switch up my look and just do something that looked visually painful and vulnerable, which is what any man would experience losing their mom.”

The performer also opened up about his personal grounding rituals, which help him stay centered and focused ahead of each show. One of his unique routines includes sleeping in a very hot room, something that helps him recharge and find balance before stepping onto the stage.
“I try my best to sleep, and I sleep with the temperature on 120 degrees. I love heat, I can have 12 covers on, and if I’m breathing in cold air, I’ll get sick almost instantly.”
Gibson’s upcoming performance at the Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto is sure to be an unforgettable evening for the ladies and the gentleman too. As he encourages R&B lovers to attend his intimate show, he invites everyone to also experience a side of him that goes beyond the spotlight.
“Have a ladies night out, all 10 of your girls – leave your man at home! Or if you’re in a relationship, bring your man with you. Fellas, if you’ve been at the house, fighting and arguing and having some situations, this is going to be the moment to clean it all up,” Gibson emphasized.
“It’s been a minute since I performed in Canada, and I just hope y’all show up, because this is about to be an experience that I hope you can’t compare to anything else!”
