Exciting news for cinema lovers: the vampire thriller Sinners is making its highly-anticipated return to Cineplex Cinemas Vaughan on Thursday with screenings in its special IMAX setting, giving moviegoers a second chance to experience the suspenseful film in its greatest and rarest format.

Beginning May 15, the theatre in Vaughan, located just outside of Toronto off Highway 7, will once again be the only place in Canada – and one of nine cinemas in the world – re-releasing the film for another weeklong run in its acclaimed 70mm IMAX theatre.

“Audiences have spoken, and we listened. If ever a film needed to be experienced in this incredible larger-than-life format, it’s Sinners,” Jeff Goldstein, president of global distribution at Warner Bros. Pictures, said in a statement.

The re-release of the historical film shot by esteemed film director Ryan Coogler comes after a tremendous, critical response and enthusiastic “popular demand,” IMAX said.

While the film will also continue playing in its regular format at the Vaughan cinema and other locations around the GTA, many say the ultra-high-resolution projection is worth it.

“The film ran without a hitch to the best of my knowledge, and boy oh boy what a great example of 70mm. To all en route: enjoy!” one Reddit user said.

But when the movie first released on April 17, the anticipated screenings came with a few close calls as Vaughan cinemagoers reported technical issues, citing the reel had torn in half midway through the show.

“I’m currently at Vaughan Cineplex watching Sinners on IMAX 70mm, and about 20 minutes into the movie, it suddenly stopped,” a Reddit user said.

“I went to Vaughan yesterday to watch 70mm and of course it didn’t work, was raging,” another user said.

“The lights came on, but everyone was left waiting for about 10 to 20 minutes before someone (probably the manager) came in and explained that the film reel had literally torn in half and could not be restarted,” another user added.

Technicians were able to fix the problem and the movie returned to its scheduled screenings, according to Reddit users.

Meanwhile, people online are sharing their excitement about the movie’s re-release, wondering how they can snag tickets for the special setting before it sells out.

“It was sold out when I looked for tickets. I won’t miss the re-release,” a Reddit user said.

“Well deserved. Best movie of the year,” another user said.

“I’d go again to see it in 70mm,” another user added.

Tickets for Sinners at Vaughan’s IMAX theatre are now available here.

For those outside of Toronto, the forbidding and soulful Sinners’ re-release will also be showing at these nine North American IMAX theatres.
