Turns out LA’s got nothing on Toronto when it comes to traffic. In fact, Tom Cruise himself had a thing or two to say about the obscene levels of congestion that have been plaguing the city for what seems like an eternity.
Cruise sat down with ETalk’s Sonia Mangat to discuss the upcoming release of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, which hits the big screen on July 10, but conversation took a sharp turn when the subject of Toronto’s traffic came up.
“I say, you sneak in a stunt in Part Two and you come to Toronto. And you take on the traffic in Toronto for two hours. Without road rage,” Mangat suggested to Cruise during the exclusive interview.
Unsurprisingly, Cruise humbly agreed to take on the challenge, but not before recalling previous experiences driving in Toronto, and sharing in the frustration of local motorists.
“You know what, I have done that challenge and I have been in that traffic. I’ve made movies in Toronto, I’ve visited Toronto, I have friends in Toronto,” Cruise said in jovial retort.
In a bantersome exchange with the press on Thursday, Toronto Mayor-elect Olivia Chow chimed in on Cruise’s comments, citing better coordination with construction projects, better public transit, and alternate forms of travel as means to relieve congestion. These things could “go a long way in making Mr Cruise happy,” remarked Chow, before inviting him to re-evaluate the traffic situation at TIFF in September.
Chow was also asked to comment on Taylor Swift passing on Canada during her Eras tour, “please come” Chow exclaimed, “we will improve transit for you!”
