Fringe Parkdale has been a local favourite for years. Now one of the salon’s former top stylists, Chanel Cezair, moves out on her own to head up Fringe Portland (67 Portland, 416-979-1336, fringeportland.ca).
The salon’s mantra is “high-end hair care without the high-end attitude,” and it delivers. The open space is welcoming and bright, with hardwood floors and high ceilings. You don’t feel crowded in with a dozen other clients here.
The salon, which opened in August, boasts a Green Circle classification, which aims to make the North American salon industry sustainable by 2020 by encouraging local sourcing of goods and recycling and repurposing of materials once destined for landfills.
Fringe Portland uses Aveda products, which are known for being natural and environmentally friendly. More than that, the products work wonders and prove you don’t have to sacrifice style for sustainability and safety.
Update March 11, 2016: Fringe Portland is now called Studio SixtySeven. “Our new brand focus will be a creative studio space, we’ll still be offering our full range of salon services, but we’ll also be hosting regular community events and also operating as an art gallery and installation space.”
