Summer is coming: And so is a Game of Thrones LARP battle

Fear not denizens of Winterfell, though the finale of Game of Thrones fifth season is fast approaching and will leave many of us clawing our eyes out with boredom until it resumes next year, salvation has arrived.

Currently scheduled to take place on June 28 is a GOT-themed LARP battle in Trinity Bellwoods Park. Bellwoods has famously become the hottest place to host your fake events this summer, but the earnest and informative updates from the Underworld LARP group has us thinking that this time, it’s sincere.

LARP, which stands for live action role playing, is like a Medieval fantasy version of Nerf that has players big and small dressing in costume, brandishing weapons made from padded materials and thwarting one another until dinner is ready. Its a different kind of foam party, featuring a small dose of consensual soft-core physical harm. Given the domineering popularity of GOT (the internet is already losing its collective mind over a colouring book inspired by the show without pausing to wonder when the last time they actually coloured anything was), the event has already garnered a ton of attention on Facebook. Now, the organizers worry that Bellwoods may be too small to hold the expected crowds.

The park has had many large gatherings like this in the past,” says a post by Underworld LARP on the page, in fine Medieval English. “If you have hosted such an event or know somebody that has, please contact us. We don’t want to get fined or have the party broken up [by] Blue Cloaks. But if we all just really immersed ourselves in the role-playing side of things, then surely the cops couldnt ticket 1200 people named Khaleesi, could they?

At this time, Underworld LARP has secured insurance but we are still waiting to hear if the location of Bellwoods will be given the blessing from King’s Landing (City Hall).

Until then, we can all start preparing our costumes.
