Toronto rapper Top 5 arrested and facing charges in firearm investigation

Toronto rapper Top 5 has been arrested in a firearm investigation, only months after being freed in a murder trial. 

The 26-year-old rapper, whose name is Ali Hassan, is facing five charges, including Careless Storage of Firearm and Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, among others. 

Toronto police say they obtained a search warrant that was executed on Friday, Jan. 24, in the area of Enterprise Boulevard and Birchmount Road area.

During the search, Top 5 was arrested along with another suspect, 29-year-old Yasin Ali, who is facing six charges. 

Both suspects were scheduled to appear in court this morning.

In September 2024, first-degree murder charges were stayed against the rapper in the case of Hashim Hashi, a 20-year-old student who was killed in Toronto in 2021. The judge let Top 5 go after deeming some social media evidence inadmissible.

Following his release, Top 5 thanked Drake on Instagram for paying his lawyer fees. 

Earlier this month, Top 5 was seen with Drake at a Raptors game in Toronto, where the team was facing the Golden State Warriors.
