Hold the limes

You might want to pass on the lime next time you’re ordering a drink.

According to fresh testing by California’s Department of Pesticide Regulation, over a quarter of imported Mexican limes had illegal pesticide residues.

Lime imports weren’t the only guilty suspects. Some California greens, including 10 per cent of conventional spinach and 4 per cent of kale crops, were found to have illegal pesticide residues.

On the bright side, only 2 per cent of certified organic produce tested had pesticide residues that would violate organic standards, with levels that would be “acceptable” in conventional produce.
