These Vancouver avant-jazz experimentalists creative process must be truly frightening. Imagine seven guys plugging in and immediately going in several different musical directions — unmolested chaos. But those tenuous connections, the determined disorganization and pressured output gives Fond of Tiger’s second full-length the same anarchic tension found on their debut, A Thing To Live With.
It’s amazing how they inevitably end on the same page, with gratifying results. Though Stephen Lyons’s guitar remains the songwriting centrepiece, your ear gravitates toward JP Carter’s haunting trumpet sections, as on the powering fractured beat of A Long Way To Temporary. Instro art-rock kingpin Jesse Zubot, who produced Release, makes his erratic violin presence felt on Hebvark, before an explosion of heady noise-rock.
