Cineplex has sneakily increased the costs of ticket prices in Canada only days after announcing a free refill popcorn deal.

On Tuesday, the movie theatre company confirmed the price update is to keep up with inflation.

“We have recently raised the prices of our tickets as a result of increased operating costs, including leasing, utilities and labour,” a spokesperson told Now Toronto.

The company says ticket prices have increased by $0.25 depending on ticket type across the country. The update applies to general, IMAX, 3D, and D-BOX. In Toronto, a general ticket is now $16.

The price change comes days after the company introduced free refills when they purchase a large popcorn or large drink.

“I guess the unlimited free refills are not “free” after all..Sleazy move,” one X user said.

“To cover refills on popcorn and soda. Got it,” another user said.

“Them free refills were a farce,” another comment read.

Despite the change, the company ensures that it is still offering ways for Canadians to save.

For instance, this includes offering discounted ticket prices every Tuesday for its UltraAVX, D-BOX, ScreenX, IMAX and VIP experiences.

In addition, the Family Favourites program is available on select Saturdays at participating locations, for only $3.99 plus tax (in-theatre price)
