Canada’s Ryan Reynolds is giving props to Toronto for bringing him back down to earth during a long press run for his new film, and fans are responding with messages of appreciation.
Reynolds stars alongside Hugh Jackman in the new Deadpool & Wolverine action comedy.
The pair is in the midst of a globetrotting promotional tour and most recently appeared at Toronto’s Scotiabank Theatre for a premiere Tuesday night.
Following their visit, Reynolds shared a heartfelt message to Canadian fans on social media.
“A big part of our job is to make it look easy. The relentless Deadpool & Wolverine global tour isn’t always easy. No complaints!!! But sometimes you show up and it feels like your brain has been lobotomized by a claw hammer, “ he wrote on Instagram.
“I’m grateful to Toronto for putting the paddles to my chest this morning,” the actor continued.
Reynolds goes on to thank Toronto for “stepping up for him,” by acknowledging the work of journalists, media personnel, local caterers, fans who filled the cinema, his co-stars and charitable organizations who helped bring the Toronto leg of the tour to life.
“Goddamn I miss being in Toronto. What a spot. One day I’ll have the lazy-lidded confidence to call it ‘The 6ix.’ But that day isn’t today,” his message concluded.
Despite not being quite ready to call the city by its nickname, Torontonians were quick to reciprocate the love.
“So much respect for you to not let the chaos of the industry change the Canadian in you!!,” one Instagram user wrote.
“Having our biggest star make Canada a priority on a tour this size gives me hope that we can reignite this industry and consistently bring this level of energy for the fans,” another person said.
“This type of honest gratitude is why you stand out from the rest! You make 🇨🇦 proud, good sir,” another fan commented.
Deadpool & Wolverine releases at Canadian theatres on July 26.
