Seeing Adam Sandler near a basketball court brings back fond (or perhaps) triggering memories from Uncut Gems. Though Hustle looks nothing like that Safdie brothers masterpiece about gambling, priceless rocks and hoops. Here Sandler goes sentimental, playing a basketball recruiter who wants to be a coach, who finds a Spanish player with a rough past that could be his next meal ticket. June 8

Stand Out: An LGBTQ+ Celebration

Just in time for Pride month, Netflix is making history with this special, which they’re billing the largest-ever gathering of LGBTQ+ comics. Billy Eichner (Billy On The Street and the upcoming Bros) hosts a fabulous night that includes appearances by Margaret Cho, Tig Notaro, Sandra Bernhard, Wanda Sykes, Rosie O’Donnell as well as others like Eddie Izzard, Sam Jay, Matteo Lane, James Adomian, Guy Branum, Canada’s own Scott Thompson and Mae Martin and others. Amy Schumer’s Parental Advisory

If you wondered about any of the jokes cut from Schumer’s recent Oscars co-hosting gig, this special, taped in early May at the Netflix Is A Joke series of concerts, should fill in the gaps. Let’s see if her Rust/Alec Baldwin joke (“Don’t Look Up is the name of a movie? More like don’t look down the barrel of Alec Baldwin’s shotgun.”) is left in. Besides hosting, Schumer has curated the lineup, which includes well-known names like Lil Rel Howery, Ron Funches, Rachel Feinstein, Chris Distefano, Christina P and Jaye McBride. June 11

Pete Davidson Presents: The Best Friends

If you’re already suffering from withdrawal now that Kim Kardashian’s +1 has left SNL (along with his much more comedically gifted co-star Kate McKinnon), you can get your fix with this special, part of the Netflix Is A Joke series. Curated and hosted by Davidson, the show includes sets by Giulio Gallarotti, Neko White, Carly Aquilino, Joey Gay, Derek Gaines, Jordan Rock and Dave Sirus. Let’s just hope Davidson’s jokes about Kanye West made the cut. June 13

The timing is perfect for a Jennifer Lopez doc, even for those of us who aren’t fans, who don’t believe she deserves an Oscar, or that she’s a good singer, or even a good dancer for that matter. Lopez nevertheless remains a fascinating figure, a charming personality with an inspirational work ethic. She pushes beyond her talents to entertain and succeed, while grappling with our very loud opinions about her and her love life. We expect she’ll get to respond to all that in Halftime. June 14

In the time that it took to wait for Top Gun: Maverick to arrive (the pandemic delayed the release by at least two years), director Joseph Kosinski made another movie, Spiderhead, which will drop on Netflix while his rip-roading fighter pilot movie is still roaring in theatres. The latter stars Chris Hemsworth (also soon to be seen in theatres in the new Thor sequel), Miles Teller (also in Top Gun: Maverick) and Jurnee Smollet (Lovecraft Country) in an adaptation of George Saunders’s short story about a peculiar behavioural experiment in a state-of-the-art prison involving mind-altering drugs. Joel Kim Booster: Psychosexual

With his Jane Austen-inspired gay rom-com Fire Island out soon (he wrote the script and co-stars with Bowen Yang and Margaret Cho) on Disney+, Kim Booster’s star is rising rapidly. So the timing is perfect for his first ever Netflix special, which deals with being Asian and getting older, his penchant for threesomes and his fascinating with human sexuality. All stuff he dealt with in his hilarious JFL42 set a few years ago. June 21

The Umbrella Academy: Season 3

The shot in Toronto series about a time travelling superhero family is back. This season about alternative timelines, an opposing new superhero family called the Sparrow Academy and lots of CGI will be a big deal if only for how it works Elliot Page coming out as a trans man into the story of his character Viktor Hargreeves. The Man From Toronto

We don’t have the highest expectations for The Man From Toronto. The action comedy shot right here in Toronto starring Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson was made by Sony Pictures and intended for a January theatrical release, before it was bumped and then dumped, landing with Netflix. We’re still pumped to see the 6ix play itself in the mistaken identity movie about an Airbnb tenant (Hart) confused for a deadly assassin known as the Man from Toronto (Harrelson). June 24
