‘I shouldn’t have gone,’ Jagmeet Singh apologizes to Drake after being called out for going to Kendrick Lamar’s show in Toronto

Former federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh is apologizing to Drake after the Toronto rapper privately called him out for going to Kendrick Lamar’s show at the Rogers Centre last week. 

Lamar stepped onto Drake’s home turf on Thursday for his two-day Grand National Tour stop amid a rivalry between the two rap titans.

The Toronto leg of the tour ended on Friday night, but not before fans recognized Singh in the crowd. Photos of him quickly spread on social media, soon catching Drake’s attention. 

A screenshot on the Toronto rapper’s now-expired Instagram story post appears to show him privately messaging Singh, expressing his disappointment in the former leader’s attendance.

“You’re a goof,” Drake wrote via direct message to Singh on Sunday.

The jab comes after a widely publicized rap feud between the Toronto entertainer and the Los Angeles rapper last year, which ultimately caused a divide between many hip-hop fans.

The widespread screengrab of the private interaction prompted Singh to address the situation on his own Instagram story. He declared his love for Toronto and assured that he attended the concert for SZA, who was a co-headliner on the tour, and not Kendrick Lamar.

“I was born in this city. I love this city,” the former NDP leader wrote on his story Sunday night.  

“But real talk, I get it. I shouldn’t have gone at all.”

Singh also praised the Toronto rapper and his brand October’s Very Own (OVO) for working towards the betterment of the city and Canada, and when it comes to the rap beef, Singh made it clear what side he was on.

“For me it’ll always be Drake over Kendrick,” he said.
