Life is stressful, and one way to deal with it is to get away and find yourself on a beach. And that’s precisely what I did recently with a trip to Saint Lucia, an island that took my breath away.

Nestled in the heart of the Caribbean lies a gem that captivates the soul and invigorates the senses: Saint Lucia. Recently, I embarked on a journey to this enchanting island, drawn by its promise of vibrant culture, breathtaking landscapes, and unforgettable experiences.

From the moment I set foot on its shores, I knew I was in for a treat that would stay with me forever.

Luxuriating in Oceanfront Tranquility at Windjammer Landing Resort & Residences

During my stay, I had the pleasure of residing at Windjammer Landing Resort & Residences, a luxurious five-star resort perched in the hills overlooking the crystal-clear waters of Labrelotte Bay. This place was magical, private and screamed relaxation as soon as I arrived.

At the private check-in for the Ocean Point Residences, the resort’s warm staff greeted me with a rum punch. Of course, I indulged immediately; the rum punch was just what I needed to unwind and disconnect.

After checking in, I was ushered to my three-bedroom Ocean Point Residence overlooking the beach. The spacious villa was two stories and equipped with numerous lookout balconies, including a private pool on the rooftop terrace! It was clear that the theme of this resort was all about privacy, disconnecting, and finding your peace—which is exactly what I did!

Every moment of my stay felt like a true escape into paradise with an array of luxury amenities, including private beach club services, water sports, rejuvenating spa treatments, and several fine dining options. The endless food options included Caribbean cuisine, Indian, Italian, tapas, and signature steakhouse.

Embracing the Rhythm of Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival

The highlight of my trip was undoubtedly the 2024 Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival, a celebration of music, culture, and community that resonates throughout the island. Set against the backdrop of the Caribbean Sea at Pigeon Island National Landmark, the festival brought together local talents and world-renowned artists such as Machel Montano, Babyface, Chloe Bailey, Davido, and even Air Supply!

From Windjammer, I could take a short water taxi ride directly to Pigeon Island for the festival. On Friday night, Soca superstar Montano took to the stage and had the entire audience move their waistline in every direction. Mine was sore by the night’s end, but I enjoyed jumping up and down with the electric crowd.

Saturday was the night that RnB and Afrobeats took over. Chloe Bailey – whose family heritage stems from Saint Lucia – showed off her undeniable talent on stage. You couldn’t help but notice a slight resemblance to her mentor, Beyonce, who has influenced the rising star greatly. Her vocal ability, dance coordination, and stage presence mesmerized the crowd. Then came Davido, who brought Afrobeats to the stage and the captivating vibes that the genre has oozed across the globe. By the time he finished his set, I had no voice left.

The final night of the festival culminated with performances from the legendary acts Babyface and Air Supply. The crowd was much more somber as they transplanted the audience back to their inner youths. I will never in my life forget seeing grown women breaking down in tears and singing their hearts out to Air Supply. It was a sight to see and an atmosphere that evoked nostalgic feelings.

The festival allows local artists to showcase their craft on a big stage. Also, it enables locals and tourists to experience international artists who would otherwise find it difficult to perform on the island because of logistics.

“Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival is of significant value to the local economy because of the revenue earned by local businesses, not only those directly connected to the tourism industry such as taxi drivers, accommodation providers, entertainers, and vendors, but also other establishments like retailers, event producers and promoters, and food and beverage companies,” Dr. Ernest Hilaire, Saint Lucia minister for Tourism, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture and Information, said.

Exploring Saint Lucia’s Delights

Beyond the festival and the comforts of Windjammer Landing, Saint Lucia beckoned with a tapestry of natural wonders and cultural delights:

●     Gros Islet Friday Night Fish Fry: A culinary adventure awaited at the Gros Islet Friday Night Fish Fry, where the air was filled with the tantalizing aroma of grilled seafood and the sounds of local music. It was the perfect blend of flavours and rhythms, a testament to the island’s vibrant spirit.
