York : music notes

COVER : Eat, drink

Rating: NNNNN

Sadly, those making the trek up to York U are kinda SOL if they’re hoping to catch killer live shows between or after classes. You’re in for a schlep.

Your best bet is catching some of York’s fine on-campus entertainment. The upside? With a stellar faculty of music, staff and students (and visiting artist lecturers) are always putting on cool recitals. Check the schedule at www.yorku.ca/finearts/music/events for upcoming performances that range from Celtic/calypso fusion to baroque strings, many of which take place in the Accolade East building (4700 Keele).

If woodwinds and violas make you yawn, try the Underground (www.myunderground.ca), in the lower level of the Student Centre. In the past, the club has booked artists like Bedouin Soundclash, k-os, Metric and Sloan. Take that, U of T!
