A viral video of a man cycling down a Toronto street with a sofa on his head is garnering lots of attention online.

The short clip showing a cyclist shakily navigating the Kensington Market area while delicately balancing a navy blue couch on his head was shared on Reddit on Sunday.

In the video, the cyclist is also seen carrying a rug or blanket-like object in his hands while riding close to the street car tracks.

The cyclist’s proximity to the tracks prompted online discussion about bike lanes and road safety.

“It’s shocking that area doesn’t even have bike lanes. Every streetcar route needs to have bike lanes to greatly reduce the amount of cyclists on streetcar tracks. Just saying,” one Reddit user wrote.

“They better install a bike lane soon because it won’t be allowed under the proposed bike lane bans,” another person said.

Earlier this month, as part of its plans to address traffic congestion, it was reported that the Ontario government was considering banning the creation of new bike lanes if they resulted in the removal of car lanes.

While some expressed concern over the future of biking in the city, others online made light of the couch situation.

“Talk about a unique safety precaution! At least if he takes a tumble, he’ll have a comfy landing,” one person wrote.

‘Does Strava have a category for carrying a couch?,” someone else joked.

“Accomplishing what no Toronto man in a pickup can,” another user said.

There is no specific bylaw prohibiting cyclists from carrying couches, however bikers are prohibited from carrying more than one passenger if the bike has only a single seat.
